  • Soak 1 cup of Himalayan Chef Black Chana for 2-3 hours and boil in a pressure cooker in 1 ½ cups of water. 
  • Take 2 tablespoons of oil and fry 1 cup of onion until brown.
  • Add ½ cup of tomato, 1tbs garlic & ginger powder, ¾ts Himalayan Chef Pink Salt, 1ts Himalayan Chef Red Chili, ¼ts Himalayan Chef Turmeric Powder, 1ts Himalayan Chef Garam Masala, and 1ts Himalayan Chef Coriander Powder.
  • Fry for 3-4 minutes and add boiled Himalayan Chef Black Chana.
  • Fry for 2-3 minutes, add water according to will and cook until gravy and oil separate.
  • Garnish it with green leafy coriander.

It takes a little longer to cook. Instant pot 30 minutes. I soaked overnight. I like the taste and l mashed some for a hummus.

I love chick peas. Dried peas in a sturdy bag saves space (no cans). The peas are easy to reconstitute by soaking and boiling. As well, the peas have their own unique umami flavor.

Overall the Himalayan Chef brand is a tastier product, and I bought it because my Indian grocery store is too far away for me to go to and buy my usual other brand. Would I buy the Himalayan Chef brand again? I would if I didn’t want to drive 80 miles to my nearest grocery store. However, if I were to drive that far to buy my groceries then I would just pick up the, and wish it were the Himalayan Chef brand instead. The Indian grocery store I usually go to does not carry this brand of kala chana.
